Don’s life was a testament to service, love, and the joy of music. Born on July 10, 1936, in Floyd County, Virginia, to Quince Adams Hylton and Emma Susan Higgs Hylton, Don grew up surrounded by the rolling hills and vibrant culture of the Blue Ridge Mountains. From an early age, he demonstrated a deep love for his country, which led him to serve proudly in the United States Army.
After his military service, Don embarked on a career at Primland Resort, where he dedicated many years of his life to providing exceptional service to guests and colleagues alike. His commitment to excellence and his warm, welcoming demeanor endeared him to all who had the pleasure of crossing his path.
One of Don’s greatest passions in life was Bluegrass music. He found immense joy in attending Bluegrass events in the area, where he could immerse himself in the soul-stirring melodies and rhythms that spoke to his heart. His love for the genre was contagious, and he cherished the time spent with friends who shared his enthusiasm for the music.
Don was known for his outgoing personality, quick wit, and playful sense of humor. He never met a stranger and had a knack for making everyone feel welcome in his presence. His genuine kindness and warm-hearted nature left a lasting impression on all who knew him, and his memory will be cherished by those whose lives he touched.
Left to cherish Don’s memory are his two daughters, Crista Walker and Susan Hylton, his sister Nadine Quesenberry, brother-in-law Lois Belcher and wife Dorothy, nephew Steve Helms and wife Angie, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family, and friends from all corners of the country.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Conners View Primitive Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services at the church.
